Veteran Luke Lewis has questioned the NRL’s decision to trial a ‘Captain’s Challenge’ in the match between lowly St. George Illawarra and Newcastle.

The Sharks forward even went as far as saying the trial was “silly”.

“I think we’re just adding things into the game and we’re getting new rules that are in our game, it’s just getting worse and worse,” Lewis told NRL Tonight on Fox Sports.

“I think if we were going to challenge it maybe wait until the Nines; trial it at the Nines and if everyone likes it take it into the trial games and go from there.

“It’s silly in my opinion.”
