St George Illawarra Dragons legend Mark Gasnier says it’s time for coach Paul McGregor to tap Benji Marshall on the shoulder.

The Dragons were flogged on Sunday 42-6 at the hands of the lowly placed Sydney Roosters.

“I said it before the game, if they are to lose they’ve got to think about the future,” Gasnier said on Fox Sports.

Fellow Fox Sports panellist Jimmy Smith was adamant Sunday’s loss should be Marshall’s last NRL game.

I don’t play him. And that’s footy,” Smith added.

“I remember going back to when Paul Vautin was playing his last game and Mark Murray, his great teammate from State of Origin, said ‘I’ll give you the last game’.

“That was 25 years ago and that sort of thing doesn’t happen anymore.”
