The Entertainers: State of Origin’s Performers

Rugby league is all about entertainment and State of Origin is arguably the pinnacle of our game. So to be the most entertaining at Origin level makes you the cream of the crop.

But who are they?

What qualifies you for this team?

The quickest?

The strongest?

Maybe it’s the ego or the will to win?

Whatever it is, these are the seventeen men that make up our State of Origin Entertainers.

1 Billy Slater
Queensland 2004-Current
At his best, is one of the most dangerous custodians the game will ever know.

2 Wendell Sailor
Queensland 1996-2001
Big, brash and quick. For better or worse, there’ll never be another Wendell Sailor.

3 Greg Inglis
Queensland 2006-Current
Are there words to even describe how entertaining this man is?

4 Steve Renouf
Queensland 1991-1998
Nicknamed ‘The Pearl’ and ‘The Prince of Centres’ for good reason.

5 Jarryd Hayne
New South Wales 2007-2014
Will be watching from San Francisco where he’s chasing an NFL contract.

6 Johnathan Thurston
Queensland 2005-Current
Mercurial, mesmerising, talent. Immortal in waiting.

7 Andrew Johns
New South Wales 1995-2005
Arguably the greatest player to ever don a footy boot.

8 Steve Roach
New South Wales 1984-1991
Intimidating and passionate, Roach gave his all as a prop for the Blues.

9 Cameron Smith
Queensland 2003-Current
The craftiest and smartest of hookers, Smith makes up for his lack of speed with everything else.

10 Glenn Lazarus
New South Wales 1989-1999
Perhaps the greatest front-rower in history. Lazarus changed the role of the prop forever.

11 Gorden Tallis
Queensland 1994-2003
Ask Brett Hodgson about ‘The Raging Bull’.

12 Steve Menzies
New South Wales 1995-2006
Scored 253 tries in all top grade careers matches. A try scoring freak.

13 Wally Lewis
Queensland 1980-1991
‘The King’ altered more Origin matches individually than any other.

14 Willie Mason
New South Wales 2003-2008
His giant frame, afro and larrikin style made him a draw card in the mid 2000’s.

15 Paul Harrogan
New South Wales 1992-1998
‘The Chief’ was a frightful sight and bruised many Queenslanders throughout his Origin tenure.

16 Brad Fittler
New South Wales 1990-2004
Brilliant passing game and a devastating runner with the best step in the game.

17 Allan Langer
Queensland 1987-2002
Langer had a never-ending bag full of tricks that bamboozled the Blues for years.
