And then there were eight. Week One of the 2016 NRL Finals series kicks off this weekend with fans across the country dreaming of premiership glory in the first weekend of October.
We thought we’d have some fun and thought – what world sporting franchise is your NRL team most like?
Melbourne Storm = Miami Heat
A couple of ageing stars and plenty of talent around them. Always a chance and always a threat.
Canberra Raiders = Leicester City
Could the Raiders repeat Leicester City’s heroics in the English Premier League? Sure, why not!
Cronulla Sharks = Chicago Cubs
Unfortunately the Sharks still haven’t won an NRL title. That’s not as bad as the Cubs who haven’t won a World series since 1908.
North Queensland Cowboys = Cleveland Cavaliers
Arguably the best player in the league at their disposal and the hardest working team around them. Not a bad combination.
Brisbane Broncos = Arsenal
Haven’t won the premiership in some time but never too far from the top.
Penrith Panthers = Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have banked their future on young captain and quarterback Andrew Luck while the Panthers are doing a similar thing with Matt Moylan.

Canterbury Bulldogs = Pittsburgh Steelers
A scary proposition when on their game. Whether it’s the old ‘Steel Curtain’ or the ‘Dogs of War’.
Gold Coast Titans = Oakland A’s
Almost always the underdog but something is different this time around for the Titans. They have a guy named Jarryd Hayne.
