Slater not ready to give the game away despite season-ending injury

Iconic Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater says he is not ready to give the game away despite another season-ending injury that will see him miss the entire 2016 season.

Slater still has a year to run on his deal for 2017 and will be 33 when that contract expires.

“The day’s going to come when I have to hang up the boots, I just don’t feel that day is right now,” Slater told Channel Nine.

“I feel I can get this shoulder injury under control and that’s why I’ve taken the steps to fix it right now.

“Not only do I not want to end my career like this, I want to have a healthy life after football as well.

“It’s never easy to take, especially after you’ve had it repaired previously and it was pretty tough to swallow, but there was bad news and there was good news.

“The bad news obviously was that they had to go back in and repair my shoulder again.

“The good news was the surgery went really well and the surgeon is very confident that I’ll make a full recovery.”
