The Brisbane Broncos have been in talks with Melbourne mentor Craig Bellamy for up to a month according to Fox Sports reporter James Hooper.
Speaking on NRL 360, Hooper revealed the Broncos have offered Bellamy a $5.8 million deal which could start in season 2020.
Bellamy has consistently been linked to the Broncos job throughout his career.
There are concerns at Red Hill over Bennett’s age. The 68-year-old is in his second stint at Brisbane where he first began in 1988. Bennett is expected to dig his heels in and will not go without a fight.
The Storm were quick to jump on the front foot Tuesday night telling NRL.com the club had put forward an offer to Bellamy in April.
“Craig has a significant three-year deal on the table with us. That’s been there for a month,” Storm CEO Dave Donaghy said.
Bellamy has considered leaving Melbourne previously.

Depending on the futures of Storm legends Cameron Smith and Billy Slater – there is the possibility that Bellamy could coach against them if he was to take the role in the Queensland capital.
Bennett coaches his 800th top flight game tomorrow night against Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium but will front the media today with Broncos CEO Paul White.

It’s an uncomfortable situation for Bennett who has led the Broncos to six premiership and coached both Australia and Queensland.
It’s understood Bennett will fight any attempt to see him pushed out of Brisbane early and will see out his contract which runs until the end of 2019.
Bennett is known for his ruthless dealings with veterans players including the departure to the Gold Coast of Wally Lewis in the early 1990’s.
He may suffer the same fate.
