Smith will surpass my Kangaroos record if he wants to: Locky

Kangaroos legend and games record holder Darren Lockyer says current Australian captain Cameron Smith could break his record.

Smith will play his 50th Test tomorrow night in Canberra against New Zealand but the 34-year-old would have to play into 2019 to surpass Lockyer who sits on 59 Internationals.

“I don’t see any reason why not. He’s 34 this year I think, 35 next year. He makes it look easy and the style of game he plays, age is no barrier for him,” Lockyer told AAP.

“I think he’ll get to 56 this year, and there’s one game next year, so he’ll get to 57. It’s up to him whether he wants to play on beyond that.”

The Kangaroos will start as favourites against the Kiwis in their last hit out before the World Cup.
