We’re not the worst in the NRL: Barnett

Mitch Barnett has become a cult hero at the Newcastle Knights since signing from the Canberra Raiders.

The forward cut his teeth in the Mounties Intrust Super Premiership side before heading up to the Hunter for more first grade chances and hasn’t missed a beat.

While results haven’t gone Newcastle’s way so far in 2017, Barnett is adamant the Knights are not the worst side in the NRL despite staring down the barrel of three straight wooden spoons.

“Anyone can look at it how they want, but for me personally, I don’t think so,’’ Barnett said.

“We know we’re a better side than just competing,’’ Barnett said. “Look, only time will tell. We have to start getting some wins before we change people’s minds.

“But if we can stick to our game plans and our structures, we’ll start getting some wins … if we keep putting ourselves in the frame, we’ll give ourselves every chance.’’

The Knights play the Sydney Roosters in Newcastle on Friday at 6pm.
