He was once touted as the successor to Robbie Farah at Wests Tigers but now Manaia Cherrington has another chance at defending premiers Cronulla.
While it seems likely James Segeyaro will end up at the Sharks, Cherrington will have a chance to impress coach Shane Flanagan at the Auckland Nines this weekend.
“I can’t wait to get back over to New Zealand and to play in front of my family and friends,” Cherrington told the Sharks website.
“I’m really looking forward to putting the Sharks jumper on for the first time, it’ll be an awesome feeling.
“It’s been tough, but it’s been a pre-season I’ve really enjoyed.
“It’s been a fresh start for me, and I’ve moved out this way too. I just can’t wait to play some footy.”
The Sharks will play their first match at midday against the Gold Coast Titans (10am Sydney time).
