Johnathan Thurston is a two-time The81stMinute Player of the Year after taking out the award, presented by Ultimatesportsmemorabilia.com.au, for the second consecutive year.

The North Queensland skipper beat out Sydney’s Roger Tuivasa-Sheck by four votes after Thurston claimed two points in the Cowboys’ win over Gold Coast in round 26.

James Tedesco, Anthony Milford and Michael Ennis had huge seasons and all finished on 23 while Shaun Johnson’s season ending injury put an end to his chances despite leading passed the midpoint of the season.

It was a huge day for Thurston who also won Representative Player of the Year, Halfback of the Year and Cowboys’ Player of the Year.

In other awards, Cronulla’s Jack Bird was Rookie of the Year while his coach Shane Flanagan was award Coach of the Year.
