Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire has fronted the media at training on Wednesday morning to answer questions regarding an Instagram post ‘liked’ by his superstar fullback Reece Walsh.
It has been another stressful week for the coach at Red Hill with speculation running rampant after veteran halfback and spiritual leader of the team Adam Reynolds was forced into retirement without getting a swansong match at Suncorp Stadium.
Reynolds pushed his case on Monday saying he was fit to play but that request was turned down by the club.
On Tuesday, Reynolds fronted again, this time saying it was his decision to hang up his boots immediately.
A Fox Sports post critical of the decision was liked by his teammate Walsh.
The ‘like’ has since been deleted.
Maguire took on questions on Wednesday and refuted it was a like-for-like case with former Bronco Martin Taupau being sacked for liking a negative post about the coach.
“I spoke to Reece this morning,” the two-time premiership-winning boss began.
“We went through it [and the] two different scenarios [Walsh and Taupau].

“I understand that there’s a ‘like’ there on social media, but we’ve had that conversation and he realises that social media moves very quickly.
“Different circumstances, same sort of incident as you’re discussing, but different.
“I’m not going to go into that [meeting with Walsh].
“I’m talking about now… not what’s happened in the past. We move forward now. Reece and I have had that conversation.”
Maguire was then asked if he still had the support of his team.
“Well…you ask them.
“Mate, I love coaching this team, and they know that.”
The 52-year-old has been under immense scrutiny from certain sectors of the media and especially in Sydney, including the NRL360 program on Fox League which has put Maguire under the microscope from the top of the show almost on a nightly basis.
