Cronulla Sharks superstar Nicho Hynes is just a handful of kicks away from creating history and surpassing iconic goalkicker Hazem El Masri for the longest streak of consecutive conversions in the history of the game.
Hynes is now sitting at 32, second all-time, alongside Nathan Cleary.
El Masri, arguably considered the greatest of all time, holds the record at 35.
And the man behind Hynes’ incredible run is also considered one of the greatest of all time, El Masri’s former teammate at Canterbury, Darryl Halligan.
“It is something everyone’s talking to me about,” Hynes said.
“You walk down the street and everybody’s talking about it so it’s there… it’s nice to have and hopefully I can keep knocking them over.
“[Halligan] has taught me to trust my process and my routine and stick at it.
“When you do have a couple of misses, just brush it off, move on and go back to your process.
“It gives me a lot of confidence and I love working with Chook.”
Hynes and the Sharks face bitter foes, St George Illawarra, at Kogarah on Sunday afternoon.
