Perth Bears CEO Anthony De Ceglie has hit back at recent critics of the building franchise after fellow newcomers PNG Chiefs made signing announcements of Jarome Luai and Alex Johnston.
Speaking on Fox League’s NRL360 on Monday night, De Ceglie was quick to point out the Bears were on a different path to the Chiefs.
“We can’t let the external noise distract us from our external KPIs,” De Ceglie said.
“I understand the comparisons but I keep reminding everyone that PNG aren’t playing next year.
“We have 17 other teams to worry about next season.
“I think PNG is a comparison but it’s not an apples-for-apples comparison, and for us, we’re sticking to our mantra to sign the right players for the right reasons.”
The former Channel 7 boss also hinted that the Bears had signed more stars but were yet to announce them publicly.
