Young English import Matty Nicholson has revealed two fellow countrymen and former Canberra Raiders stars helped get him to the National Rugby League and the nation’s capital after playing with the pair at Warrington last year.
Nicholson has told NRL.com Canberra’s rich English history played its part.
“That was probably a big factor really,” the second rower said.
“I played with George Williams and John Bateman last year at Warrington, so they were very supportive of the club.
“They said it was a really good club and they played really well when they were over here.
“And not just those two; Josh Hodgson, Elliott Whitehead, there’s a lot!
“They all had great careers over here which made it a bit of an easy decision to come to Canberra.”
Nicholson has been named to start against the Dolphins this Sunday at GIO Stadium.
