Queensland skipper jumps to defence of Maroons coach Billy Slater ahead of deciding Game III

Queensland Maroons skipper Daly Cherry-Evans has backed his State of Origin coach Billy Slater only days before the deciding Game III at Suncorp Stadium.

Slater is under pressure after the Maroons were flogged in Game II at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and came under fire for selecting a squad for the decider that many critics believe QLD won’t win.

“I really, really love being coached by Billy,” the Eagles legend said.

“He’s a fantastic person and the way he prepares us is top shelf to be fair.

“He’s obviously really determined to help us get our training right and our minds right for the game on Wednesday.

“He’s done a great job.

“I think he can hold his head high.”
