Legendary coach Wayne Bennett has confirmed he is leaving the Dolphins and headed to the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2025 season on a three-year deal.

Bennett, 74, told AAP on Tuesday he was headed back to Redfern after a two-year stint with the Redcliffe-based Dolphins.

“I like the people there (at Souths) and I like the club and what it stands for,” Bennett said.

“I know a number of the players. There is some good talent there and we can do something.”

Ben Hornby, who won a title under Bennett at St George Illawarra in 2010, is the interim coach of Souths who sacked Jason Demetriou several weeks ago.

“On behalf of the Board of the Rabbitohs we look forward to welcoming Wayne back to the Club, and to finishing off what we got so close to achieving in 2021,” Rabbitohs chairman Nick Pappas said.

Bennett’s Dolphins currently sit 4th on the table.
