Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly says no roster cleanout needed as club eyes off Wayne Bennett return

South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly says there will be no roster cleanout at the under-siege club and Jason Demetriou’s replacement will work with the current team.

Rabbitohs bosses confirmed Demetriou’s exit after a disastrous start to the season with Solly conceding former coach Wayne Bennett would be an ideal candidate.

“Wayne is one of the coaches we will talk to,” Solly said to a press scrum on Wednesday.

“Wayne had great success [and] he left the club on very good terms.

“We will speak to Wayne and if he’s available and interested certainly will progress that.

“I think we want someone who fits this fine group and can get the best out of them.

“It’s a unique client group having worked with them for a long period of time.

“And we want I think a coach that can get them to form their best consistently and we want I think a coach that understands the values and heritage and history of this club.”

Bennett left the Rabbits in 2021 when Demetriou took charge.
