The St George Illawarra Dragons are one step closer to making a late pre-season signing in the shape of unwanted North Queensland forward and former Dragon Luciano Leilua.

Leilua is down the list of contenders for a starting spot in Townsville and the Dragons are desperate to bolster their stocks ahead of what is set to be a grueling 2024 season.

“I’m of the understanding that it’s a four-year deal that Leilua is hoping to get from the Red V,” Michelle Bishop told SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He met with Dragons coach Shane Flanagan and he is still in Sydney.

“Leilua will meet with the Dragons CEO and a few other important heads at the club on Wednesday.

“He wants to come home. He’s not having a lot of fun up there.”
