The under siege Wests Tigers are facing fresh backlash from fans after a report surfaced suggesting the club had approached the NSW Government about funding a brand new stadium in Liverpool.

It was suggested in the story from The Sydney Morning Herald that Wests Tigers would play the majority of their matches at Liverpool with a few at Leichhardt Oval and zero at Campbelltown Stadium.

Fans and former players were outraged.

While Wests Tigers do have junior clubs within Liverpool and surrounds, so too do the Eels and Bulldogs.

Robbie Payne, who debuted for Western Suburbs in 1999 before going on to carve out a legendary career in bush footy, ripped into the merged club.

“The development area of Campbelltown is now lost, follow the train line to Menangle, etc coincide with on, off ramps on the Hume and build the facility,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Don’t think now think 20 years.

“WT is 25 years old in 3 months and the d* are still stuck in the inner city, failing miserably and neglecting our area.”

Eagle Vale junior Adrian Rainey, who had stints at Wests, Parramatta and Canterbury took to X to unleash.

“Whoever in the Wests Tigers is driving the decision to set up in Liverpool is a cancer to future success.

“This is the final straw.”

Wests Tigers recently announced that they would be play five games at their “spiritual homes” in 2024 – Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Stadium.

“We are Wests Tigers, and Wests Tigers’ two spiritual homes and historical homes, are Leichhardt and Campbelltown,” CEO Justin Pascoe recently told the club’s website.

“We are very proud to represent Sydney’s Inner West and South West, and this is where we should be playing most of our home games.”
