Marcelo Montoya suspended for four weeks after homophobic slur in side’s win over North Queensland

New Zealand Warriors winger Marcelo Montoya has been suspended for four games after calling opponent Kyle Feldt a “f*****” in his side’s round 5 win over North Queensland last Friday.

The flyer was apologetic after the hearing on Tuesday night and was quick to confirm he was not homophobic.

“I’m not a homophobe; gays in the community are valued,” Montoya said

“It was in the heat of the moment and that’s the word that came out.”

The NRL were fighting for a six week ban but the 4-week suspension was handed down after Montoya pleaded guilty.
