English coach Shaun Wane says he would be surprised if Canberra star John Bateman leaves the NRL for a return to his former club.

Wane coached Bateman at the Warriors in the Super League and spoke to the forward on Monday.

“I think he has some unfinished business in the NRL,” he said.

“It’ll be eating away at him that he’s not won a Grand Final there.”

Speculation has been rife that Bateman is set to walk away from the Raiders as his new agent Isaac Moses looks for a bigger deal elsewhere.

The Raiders have agreed to let Bateman test his value and negotiate with rivals.
