Channel 7 is reportedly interested in broadcasting NRL matches if an agreement can’t be reached between the game and current free-to-air holders Channel 9.
Most recently Channel 7 presented the 2017 World Cup and has a long history in the sport.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Channel 7 has contacted the NRL and expressed their interest.
It comes on the back of a concerted media attack from Channel 9 over the way NRL has “mismanaged” their finances. It’s also been widely reported that the network are desperate for the NRL to scrap their 2020 season completely to save costs of up to $130 million.
