Penrith legend says Bulldogs can’t beat the Panthers with Lachlan Galvin in the number 7 jersey

Legendary halfback Greg Alexander believes Lachlan Galvin is not a natural halfback and Canterbury coach Cameron Ciraldo should reinstate Toby Sexton for the team’s must-win semi-final against Alexander’s former club Penrith on Sunday at Accor Stadium.

Alexander, who played for Australia, New South Wales and skippered the Panthers to their maiden premiership in 1991, told SEN Radio that Galvin was outplayed by Melbourne’s second-string halfback Jonah Pezet last Friday night.

“The jury is still out,” Alexander told Andrew Voss on Monday morning.

“Is there anyone out there who says that Galvin is their man?

“I don’t think he is.

“For Lachlan, I can see something there.

“There’s energy and he’s looking at space.

“However Jonah Pezet knew what he had to do and had a good kicking game.”

With Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton set to miss the clash due to injury, it is expected Matt Burton will revert to the centres which could see Galvin and Sexton teamed together in 6 and 7.

Sexton may end up back in the halfback role with Galvin playing as a classic five-eighth.

In an early win for the four-straight premiers Penrith, it is understood their official supporter bay at Homebush quickly sold out ahead of the Bulldogs.
