Penrith insiders question appointment of ‘footy head’ Andrew Hill as CEO of Panthers Group

The juggernaut known as the Penrith Panthers have rarely put a foot wrong in a very long time and their four straight premierships on the field is a sign of that.

Off-field it has been much the same, whether it be the football department or their growing list of clubs and venues.

Which makes the appointment of ‘footy head’ Andrew Hill as the group boss a little puzzling.

The Western Weekender’s ‘Masked Panther’ reported as much this week with some within the Panthers also questioning the hire.

“This is a role that allows me to align my skills and experience with one of the most successful and respected organisations in Australian sport,” Hill said.

“Panthers Group has an incredible reputation, not just in rugby league but across its clubs and facilities, and I’m excited by the opportunity to lead the organisation into its next chapter.”

Hill’s role does not include rugby league.

Meanwhile The Courier Mail has reported dumped Brisbane Broncos star Gehamat Shibasaki wasn’t axed by coach Michael Maguire for simply showing up to training a little hungover from a big night.

It has now been revealed the State of Origin centre was out drinking with rival Dolphins players during a “no drinking” pact with his Brisbane teammates.
