“Absolutely flogged”: Maguire reveals Shibasaki’s Red Hill nightmare after showing up to training ‘under the weather’

Brisbane Broncos head coach Michael Maguire has revealed that axed star Gehamat Shibasaki was “absolutely flogged” at Red Hill on Wednesday after being stood down from the final round of the season.

Code Sports had previously reported the centre had shown up to training “under the weather”.

Maguire, a fiercely intense coach, reacted immediately.

“It’s obviously disappointing,” Maguire told reporters on Wednesday.

“He’s made a mistake and he understands that and you pay a price I suppose.

“I don’t think it’s a big call to be honest.

“It’s the expectation of what is going on and culture is everything.

“You have to live by what you’re building and the expectations of each other.

“The focus for us is this game. We’ve worked really hard this season [and] learned plenty about each other and had plenty of hurdles and this is no different.”

The Broncos host the Melbourne Storm on Thursday in a blockbuster final-round , top four, clash at Suncorp Stadium.
