Rabbitohs season imploding before our eyes as club legend Sam Burgess sacked

South Sydney Rabbitohs legend Sam Burgess has been relieved of his duties as assistant coach at the club after a meeting with officials on Wednesday morning despite the NRL side still sitting inside the top 8 with a bye this weekend and a must-win showdown with arch enemies Sydney Roosters in the final round.

Burgess has already agreed to take the top job at English Super League club Warrington in 2024.

Fellow assistant John Morris is also expected to find a new home.

It comes on the back of reports that not all has been well within the playing group either with a supposed showdown recently between Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray in a video session.

Burgess left training on Wednesday wishing the playing squad well for the remainder of the season.

Reports suggest Burgess clashed with head coach Jason Demetriou over what is believed to be preferential treatment of Mitchell compared to the rest of the roster.
