It was a horrible night for footy with a few brave souls venturing out into the storms to watch the Knights host Manly in Newcastle to kick off round 5 of the season.
While the Knights weren’t up to the task, the Sea Eagles raised some eyebrows throughout the 80 minutes for what appeared to be deliberate tactics to stay down to gain penalties from the referee.
All clubs, at times, are guilty of this but have we seen such an obvious display throughout an entire match?
At one point, Sea Eagles and Maroons skipper Daly Cherry-Evans stayed down clutching at his neck. Once the penalty was blown, the halfback was back to his feet and smiling at the Knights players.
During the match, Wide World of Sports’ ‘The Mole’ asked his 72,000 Twitter followers: “Asking for a friend… Do Manly players lie down for penalties?”
Many others agreed.
