St George Illawarra Dragons coach Anthony Griffin considered naming trouble forward Jack de Belin as the team’s captain for this weekend’s clash with the Roosters before it was quashed by club officials.
According to Michael Chammas of The Sydney Morning Herald, Griffin was talked out of the decision and the late second with Tariq Sims eventually named on Tuesday afternoon to lead the team.
“Dragons chief executive Ryan Webb confirmed there had been a discussion about who would lead the team but declined to comment on the issue when contacted by the Herald on Tuesday,” Chammas wrote.
Meanwhile Sharks big man David Fifita is recovering after his shocking throat injury over the weekend in Brisbane.
Fifita underwent surgery on a fractured larynx which saw him in an induced coma after a tackle gone wrong against the Knights.
