Wests Tigers released a statement on Sunday night denying reports they were set to hold emergency crisis meetings regarding their coach Michael Maguire after the team was destroyed 40-6 by Manly at Bankwest Stadium.
Read the short statement below:
“Contrary to a media report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Wests Tigers can vehemently deny there are crisis meetings being held at the club. Whilst disappointed with recent results, all at Wests Tigers remain firmly united and committed to producing a strong and competitive season together, and ready to get back to work tomorrow in preparation for Round 8.”
But on the same night, Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis told NRL.com there were not guarantees.
“I can’t guarantee that the sun will come up tomorrow.
“After 33 years as a lawyer I know I can’t use the word guarantee. You can’t guarantee anything. But there’s no conversation about the coach,” Hagipantelis said.
“I’ve spoken with CEO and football manager tonight and it’s been communicated to Madge. It’s just not on our agenda, it’s not a conversation for us, it’s all external to the club.
“He’s contracted here and I see no reason why he won’t [see out his deal].”
Then on Monday, Wests Tigers CEO told The Australian that Maguire had little to worry about.
“Madge is 100 percent safe.”
Wests Tigers gave up 40 unanswered points as the Sea Eagles demolished them on a sunny day in Parramatta.
Next week Wests Tigers travel to Wollongong to face St George Illawarra.
