Former Melbourne Storm star Suliasi Vunivalu has been dumped from the Queensland Reds Super Rugby team just days before his debut after his involvement in an incident at a Brisbane bar.

Vunivalu was charged with common assault after ‘shoving’ a security guard on January 30. The Reds only found out about the incident last week.

He has also been fined $10,000.

“I apologise to the QRU and my teammates for that,” he said on Tuesday

“I apologise to the fans and to the rugby community, especially in Queensland.

Whether he’s playing or not, you can guarantee, Cameron Smith is laughing his arse off

“I understand the position the QRU have taken. I look forward to the matter being resolved.”

Just weeks after winning the NRL title for the Storm, Vunivalu was brought into the Wallabies rugby squad but didn’t play a game for Australia.
