Josh Mansour has taken a shot at the Penrith Panthers for the way they handled a meeting with the veteran winger just day’s after the team’s grand final loss to Melbourne.
Mansour was summoned to a cafe in Homebush where he was met by coach Ivan Cleary and Penrith’s football manager Matt Cameron.
“I had a feeling I was going to hear what I didn’t want to hear. When Ivan told me the plan was to play Charlie (Staines) on the left wing next year I was just in shock. I didn’t see it coming at all,” Mansour told The Sydney Morning Herald.
‘‘It was such a weird few days. We shed plenty of tears with our team in the sheds and the emotions didn’t really get the chance to settle down.
‘‘As they were talking to me I was frustrated and angry, but I didn’t show it. I just nodded my head through the whole conversation. I wanted to get out of there as quick as I could.
“I didn’t want to hear any more. The first thing I did after that was call my wife and she was naturally very anxious and worried about the unknown… what comes next. I was trying to be as positive as I could be.”
Mansour, who has spent almost a decade at the Panthers, questioned the timing.
“After nine years, being told at a café straight after a grand final loss that I wasn’t wanted … I didn’t think that was how it was going to end for me.”
