Channel Nine’s Phil Gould has defended the network as discussions continue between the NRL and broadcasters about if and when the season should recommence.
Replying to a fan on Twitter who accused broadcasters of taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gould was quick to throw some shade back at the NRL.

“That is not the motivation here,” Gould said.
“NRL’s current financial position is the NRL’s doing. Discussions are now underway to not only save the game, but ensure a long and sustainable future. Channel 9 has bailed out Rugby League many, many times. This time it has to be done right.”
The reply from punters was swift with one asking: “How is Nine going to ensure its [NRL’s] future by paying it less money? Someone better share this with Channel 7 so they can save the AFL too.”
