NRL season could restart as late as September with 15-game competition

The NRL has met with club power brokers about the possibility of restarting the 2020 season as early as July in a best-case scenario with back up start dates of August or September also options.

Officials from all 16 clubs and the NRL discussed different scenarios via video link on Tuesday after the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A condensed competition would consist of 15 games with a grand final slated for late December.

The season would be scrapped completely if it was not recommenced by September.

Clubs were also told they would receive $3.6 million worth of payments from the NRL until July.
