The godfather of the Canberra Raiders Don Furner Sr OAM has died aged 87.

Don represented both the Kangaroos and Queensland before becoming the inaugural coach of the Raiders, leading them alongside Wayne Bennett to the 1987 grand final.

Don also coached the Roosters in the early 1970’s and the Australian side between 1986 and 1988. He is a life member of the Raiders and is the father of Don Jr and David. RIP Don.
