High-profile Campbelltown lawyer and former Wests chairman Jim Marsden – who helped develop the Wests Tigers merger in 1999 – has questioned the club again after its decision to play just three games in the fast-growing Macarthur region in 2018.
The Wests Tigers will also play just the three games at Leichhardt Oval in Lillyfield.
“There should be a focus on the growth of support and popularity for Wests Tigers in Macarthur, and to achieve that they have to invest more of their resources here,” Marsden told The Campbelltown Advertiser.
“I’m sure moving the game outside Sydney has some economic benefit, but you’ve got to have both the local supporter base and economics for the club to prosper.
“The need to grow the game of rugby league is a matter for the NRL.
“What we need to do is grow support back here in Macarthur.”
