Cronulla star Jack Bird says he is that happy at the Sharks he would play for minimum wage.
Realistically, Bird is set to sign a big contract extension with his current deal running out at the end of 2017.
“It’s a short career. You’re going to take as much as you can get to have a good career and be set for after footy,” Bird said.
“But I’m not really demanding that much, to be honest. I’m not that kind of guy. I just like playing footy if I got offered the minimum wage I’d probably play.”
Troubled fullback Ben Barba has left a spot open at the back with Bird’s close friend Valentine Holmes expected to get first crack.
“I’m happy at centre. To be honest, it doesn’t really bother me (where I play) besides winger,” he said.
“But in saying that, anywhere to be around the ball I guess. I enjoy the halves but I’m not much of an organiser. I’m more of a runner.”
