Former leading referee Greg McCallum has defended John Grant and the Independent Commission amid growing support to oust the ARLC Commission Chairman.

McCallum also took a swipe at the clubs themselves.

“Irrespective of the current issue that saw a walkout and subsequent vote of no confidence in the Chair, the whole notion of an Independent Commission within corporate and financial governance is to lessen the influence and control of decision making of the members of which it governs” McCallum wrote on Facebook.

“It would fair to say that the IC (Independent Commission) in Rugby League was formed to allow strategic decision making to take the game forward free of ‘powerful’ forces that seek to promote their own good ahead of the rest. ????? (sic).”
