Police officers from the NSW Fraud and Cybercrime Squad have raided the homes of four prominent NRL player managers as part of investigations into the salary cap breaches that rocked the Parramatta Eels club earlier this year.
Searches were made just before 10am on Thursday morning at a number of properties including the Woollahra house of Beavis, Ayoub’s office in Leichhardt and the offices of George Mimis and Paul Sutton.
Beavis led detectives into his home but were forced to use a locksmith to enter Ayoub’s Hay Street office.
Officers confirmed to the media that no arrests were expected yet in relation to Task Force Rhodium.
The morning raids on the three different precincts was in an attempt to gain documentation that could potentially help the task force.
Parramatta were docked 12 premiership points and fined $1 million for systemic breaches of the salary cap while a number of officials including chairman Steve Sharp were sacked from their positions.
It is alleged that a number of agents threatened to pull their clients from the club if third-party deals promised to certain players by the previous board weren’t honoured.
The Eels, now under Sharp, continued the cap breaching and honoured the third party deals including a guaranteed third-party from Sharp to Ayoub written on the back of a napkin, third-party payments to Jarryd Hayne despite the fact he was now playing NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, apartments for players and direct payments to agents for the signing of players.
