Illawarra’s Irish International Tyrone McCarthy believes the Cutters ability to perform at the back end of games can cause an upset against the high-flying Mounties in the Intrust Super Premiership grand final at Pirtek Stadium.
The Cutters motored home to score two late tries against the Newtown Jets at Leichhardt Oval to book their spot in the decider.
“I think for most teams that’s the area they want to be the best at and it’s something JD (coach Jason Demetriou) talks about, being united in our d and thankfully we kept them out enough [on Sunday against Newtown],” McCarthy said.
“We set [the grand final] as our goal at the beginning of the year and you can see by the boys reaction to those tries we scored just how much it meant to us.
“We made it tough on ourselves but I’m really proud of the effort hanging in there.
“We knew it was going to be an 80-minute effort and Newtown gave us that.”
The Steele Sports team is live from midday on Sunday with Mounties v Cutters from 4pm on steelesports.com.au
