Queensland captain Cameron Smith says Wednesday night’s dead rubber at ANZ Stadium is important for both clubs as a momentum shift could see New South Wales start 2017 with confidence.

The Maroons are gunning for their fifth whitewash in Origin history and will start as favourites for Game III.

“We can’t afford not to put in a good performance because that can give them a bit of self-belief and momentum into next series,” Smith said.
