The challenge of Morgan’s career if Cronk is ruled out of State of Origin I

Michael Morgan will have the challenge of his career ahead of him if Cooper Cronk is ruled out of State of Origin I according to Michael Hagan.

Cronk will be given every chance to line up for Queensland at ANZ Stadium but is fast losing time after injuring his ankle at training.

“If Cooper is ruled out late Queensland will have the services of a very competent replacement in Michael Morgan, who has played alongside Jonathan Thurston for a long time at club level” Hagan wrote for foxsports.com.au.

“However, starting your first game in the halves in Origin is a lot of pressure for anyone to handle and it takes time to find your feet. The difference in intensity in kick pressure, for example, is immense.

“The line speed required in the defensive line and the intent of the ball carriers is much stronger as they put the key ball players on either side of the field under pressure.

“He will have the benefit of Thurston and Cameron Smith to settle him down but nothing can prepare you for the onslaught of pressure that is coming your way.

“You have to experience it to fully understand it.”
