Melbourne’s legendary fullback Billy Slater is gunning for round one after a forgettable 2015 hampered by injury but says that would be in a perfect world.
“I hope to be there in a couple of weeks, I can’t give you a definitive answer right now,” Slater said on Tuesday.
“I’ve still got to jump through a few hurdles over the next two weeks. I’m pretty confident I’ll be there.
“Everything has gone to plan, these things take quite a long time.
“I’ve been training since November 2, that’s the longest pre-season I’ve had for over a decade now. I’m looking forward to a game of football.”
Meanwhile Storm halfback Cooper Cronk’s refused to publicly commit to the club after this season.
“I understand it’s a talking point and everyone is entitled to their opinion and to ask questions,” Cronk said.
“There is also a part of negotiation that is done privately and behind closed doors.
“I love this footy club, I’ve been a part of it and blessed to be a part of it.”
