The Gold Coast Titans’ nightmare run continues with one of their young shining lights halfback Kane Elgey set to miss the entire 2016 season with a ruptured ACL in his knee after a training mishap on Monday.
After missing out on Daly Cherry-Evans, Elgey was handed to job of resurrecting the club as their chief playmaker.
The news is a further setback for the besieged club who have lost captain Nate Myles and most recently had their silky centre James Roberts walk out to join Brisbane.
“It’s a devastating blow for Kane and he has naturally taken it hard,” Titans head coach Neil Henry said.
“He showed his immense promise during his rookie season in 2015 and had been training extremely well, always among the leading group, and shown what great strides he had taken in confidence and maturity.”
Gold Coast will now rely heavily on new signing Tyrone Roberts who was squeezed out of the Newcastle Knights to make room for Trent Hodkinson.
It’s a bitter pill for the Titans who have battled on and off the field for a number of seasons.
