Nightcliff Dragons’ 2015 premiership-winning skipper Geoff Holcombe says he still wants to be involved with the club despite retiring from the game after defeating Palmerston 30-22 in the decider.
Holcombe is also considering moving into coaching after Dragons coach Jesse McLean stepped down from the role in the off-season.
“I’m thinking about it (coaching) but nothing is set in stone at this stage,” Holcombe told NT News.
“I’d like to be involved in some capacity – even if it’s just running the water.”
Despite only being 27-years-old, Holcombe knew it was time after the victory over the Raiders but didn’t rule out a return if needed.
“It was always in the back of my mind for (2015) to be my last year but once we won the flag that pretty much solved it.
“I guess you never say never, but the plan is to call time but if I had to I guess I could but I’d want to limit it to only a handful.”
Meanwhile rivals Palmerston have lost a number of stars including veteran Chuck Norris.
“He (Norris) was probably the biggest one who goes out,” Raiders Coach Geoff Cregan told NT News.
“He has been around for years and years, a big name in Darwin rugby league.
“He’s a good bloke and good leader and he has said that last year was his last.”
