Boyd pushes for Broncos veteran to skipper team in 2016

Brisbane Broncos fullback Darius Boyd has backed veteran Corey Parker to lead the club in 2016 and in doing so ruled himself out of the race.

Wayne Bennett has a number of options to replace the retired Justin Hodges but the responsibility could fall to one of the next generation with both Boyd and Kiwi International Adam Blair publically knocking back the chance.

While halfback Ben Hunt is an obvious candidate, Boyd reckons Parker is the man.

“I’ve only been at the club for a year. I’d like to be there longer and feel my way into the team a bit more,” Boyd told foxsports.com.au.

“I missed a lot of last year and as far as being a captain, there’s a few things I need to focus on to better myself before I can help others.

“We’ve got a lot of class players at the joint that can do the job and for me Corey Parker is the man that should lead us forward.”

“He’s been there and done it before.

“He’s a natural leader. He’s only got a year or two left (in the NRL), he’s a one-club man (and) he’s done so much in the game.

“He’d be the best man for us in 2016.”
