Souths didn’t score but there was one Adam Reynolds moment against Eels that says Rabbitohs can win the premiership

Forget everything you saw from the South Sydney Rabbitohs tonight because there was one play that should have their fans believing they can win the premiership.

Just prior, Rabbitohs halfback and club legend Adam Reynolds slid across field and put his partner Cody Walker through for a try.

That itself was lovely to watch on its own – it was brilliant halves play between the two playmakers.

Walker is killing it.

He has been on absolute fire.

But just before half-time with the Rabbitohs surging again and on the Eels line – Souths could have gone wide immediately.

When Reynolds isn’t in a good frame of mind, he passes first.

Reynolds almost always passes… apparently.

But this time, Reynolds didn’t even think about passing. It was only the third tackle and Reynolds looked up at the line and said ‘that’s mine’.

He took it on himself.

And yeah he didn’t get there but the Rabbitohs are firing when Reynolds is thinking run first.

Nothing reads South Sydney’s temperature like Adam Reynolds hitting the line and asking questions.

Who cares if Latrell Mitchell is out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury?

Souths didn’t miss a beat when Mitchell limped from the field.

Wayne Bennett – the messiah – has a vision in his own head and that’s another premiership trophy to throw up on the cupboard.

If anyone can get through a period without Latrell – it’s Souths. Because with all due respect to Latrell Mitchell, Souths can win and win well without him.

The Eels were embarrassed and the club has been here so many times before. After all the hype, all the love, they’ve faltered.

Here come the Bunnies.

Everyone is talking about the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne and the Sydney Roosters but the Eels are fading.

Canberra aren’t far away but this was the performance that South Sydney needed.

Here they are.

A premiership contender.

Glory, bloody, glory!
