“Have some respect!” – cricket legend shuts down #refsfault

Australian cricket legend and mad Brisbane Broncos fan Andrew Symonds has shut down what has become known as #refsfault on social media.

Speaking on Fox Sports’ NRL 360, the big Queenslander said there was no use in blaming officials for decisions made in games and pointed to North Queensland’s bad luck a few years ago.

“Ref-bashing, or umpire-bashing in my game — it has nothing going for it,” he said.

“I’ve probably given umpires a good spray over the years. But all you do is get fined and it’s not going to make the decision change.

“I think it can potentially pollute and leave frustration there longer than it has to. The Cowboys had some bad calls go against them over the past couple of years which have cost them big time. I think they dealt with it a lot better than a lot of clubs would have because nothing is going to change.”

The Cowboys in fact bounced back to win the 2015 Grand Final.

“There’s going to be human error in anything. Whether they’ve got all these angles from different cameras or whether it’s done just by the ref’s eye. It’s got to be left alone, have some respect.

“Don’t try to say the refs are trying to make mistakes. Leave it alone, you’re disappointed and there’s nothing wrong with being disappointed but there’s no future in going down that alley and slagging them off.”
