One of the greatest Cronulla Sharks to ever live – Steve Rogers was a former Australian captain, named in both the New South Wales and police teams of the century in 2008.

Originally born on the Gold Coast where his son Mat would later play, Rogers moved to Sydney in 1973 where he immediately had an impact on the competition at just 18 years of age playing in the grand final against Manly in his first season. Although the Sharks went down, Rogers was rewarded for his stunning debut season by going on the Kangaroo Tour to Great Britain and France. Five years later Rogers captained the Sharks in another grand final against the Sea Eagles which Manly won in a midweek replay.

In a wonderful career, Rogers would win both the Rothmans Medal and Dally M and appear in 21 games for his country (including two World Cups) and 24 for New South Wales.

He would also become CEO of the Sharks later into retirement.

Rogers passed away in 2006.
