Menzies: Cameron Munster “a complete player”

Tryscoring legend Steve Menzies says Cameron Munster is a must for the Melbourne Storm in 2016 even when Billy Slater returns to the team.

Munster had a breakout year and was an integral part of the Storm’s late run replacing the injured Slater.

The Storm reached the preliminary final before going down to eventual premiers North Queensland.

“People didn’t expect (anything). ‘He’s filling Billy’s shoes, they’re going to struggle’ – he was a complete player,” Menzies told sportsfan.com.au.

“He handled the pressure. He did exceptionally well under some trying circumstances, so in that scenario you can see guys that are just born to play first grade and he just slotted in so easily.

“You’ve got to stick him in somewhere because he’s such a great player.

“With the ball in hand he’s very good, but I just like when he’s got a little bit more space. Sometimes at five-eighth you can get a bit restricted.”

Meanwhile Salford has released Kiwi-born Super League star Rangi Chase with the former St. George Illawarra playmaker now on the open market.

Chase is a former Man of Steel, Super League’s equivalent to the Dally M with reports suggesting Chase will stay in the United Kingdom and link with Leigh in the Championship.
