The New Zealand Warriors have signed cross-code prodigy Kahu Capper back from the Sydney Roosters on a two-year deal ahead of their Sunday afternoon meeting at Allianz Stadium.
Capper, 18, has been part of the Roosters system for the previous three seasons and has also played for the NSW Waratahs in that time.
“Kahu’s a quality young footballer with huge potential and desire,” Warriors GM of recruitment Andrew McFadden said on Thursday.
“We’ve been watching his development for some time and met up with him recently.
“He’s keen to come home to be near his family and to further his rugby league career with the Warriors.”
The news of Capper returning to New Zealand comes after the Roosters lost out on Kangaroos and Maroons star Dane Gagai who knocked back the Tricolours to stay in Newcastle.
It’s also expected that Titan David Fifita will sign with the Penrith Panthers despite the Roosters reportedly opening up discussions with Fifita’s management first.
Capper will continue his apprenticeship in Auckland as an outside back under the tutelage of Kiwi legends like Shaun Johnson and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

“When I first signed with the Roosters, they actually signed me as a half. I used to be a halfback,” Capper told zerotackle.com.
“I was a halfback through my earlier years, and then after my injury, I came back, and I had to change position.”
The Roosters and Warriors clash on Sunday in Sydney from 2pm.
